Daily Expressions in Japanese

Here are some daily expressions that often used in Japan.

hajimemashite = it’s first time we meet [says when you introduce yourself]

ogenki desuka = how are you doing?

genki desu = I’m fine

genki dewa arimasen = I’m not fine

okagesama de = I’m fine;good [because your prayer]

ohayou (gozaimasu) = good morning

konnichiwa = good afternoon

konbanwa = good night [says when meeting someone in the night]

oyasumi(nasai) = good night [says to others before sleeping; when leaving someone you met in the night]

odaijini = get well soon

arigatou(gozaimasu) = thank you(very much)

douitashimashite = you’re welcome

baka;aho;tako;bakayarou = idiot;stupid;fool !!

gomenasai = I’m sorry

sumimasen = execuse me

daijoubu = that’s Ok

hai = yes

iie = no

yatta = horray

itadakimasu = [says before eating]

gouchisousama deshita = [says after eating]

ittekimasu = I’m leaving[says when leaving home]

itterasshai = come back soon [says to whom leaving home]

ki o tsukete kudasai = take care

aishiteru;aishite iru yo;anata ga suki = I love you

kirai yo = I hate you

itai = ouch *hurt*

moshi moshi = hallo [on phone]

sugoi = cool;great

nan desuka = whats up?

(iie) betsu ni nandemo nai = no, nothing

uso = bullshit

mochiron = of course

ganbatte = fighting;good luck

hara heta = I’m hungry

nodo ga kawaku = I’m thirsty

ippai = I’m full

kawaii = cute

tsukaremashita = I’m tired

nanchatte;jyoudan yo = I’m kidding

mata ashita = see you tomorrow

ja ne = bye bye

sayounara = so long
